MudBuster Size Chart: Small, Medium or Large?

The MudBuster size chart has three sizes, not five. Dexas lists Small for paws up to 2 in wide, Medium for 2.5 to 3.5 in, and Large for paws above 3.5 in. Measure your dog's paw at its widest point and pick by that number, not by breed or body weight.
The MudBuster size chart is simpler than most buyers expect: Dexas makes the cup in three sizes, and each one is tied to the width of your dog's paw. Some shops and older pages mention extra small or extra large versions. We found no maker source for them. Below you will find the maker's figures, a way to measure, and what to do when your dog sits between sizes.
The three sizes
These figures come from the Dexas store text as quoted in search results. Direct fetches of the Dexas pages were blocked when we checked. Re-check the maker's chart before you order.

Specs last checked: October 13, 2026
- Small: 4.3 in tall, 3.65 in wide, for paws up to 2 in wide. Dexas says it is for smaller dogs.
- Medium: 6 in tall, 4 in wide, for paws of roughly 2.5 to 3.5 in. Dexas says it is for medium dogs.
- Large: 8.85 in tall, 4.75 in wide, for paws wider than 3.5 in. Dexas says it is for large and extra-large dogs.
The maker does not publish an opening diameter or an interior depth, so the outer height and width are the only dimensions to compare. They include the wall of the cup, which means the space inside is smaller than the numbers suggest.
Where the sources disagree
Treat the Medium range with some caution. One Dexas page we saw says the Medium takes paws "up to 2.5 in". The Dexas store text we used gives 2.5 to 3.5 in. We used the maker's own store text, but we could not verify which is right on the physical product. If your dog's paw is close to 2.5 in or 3.5 in, those conflicts are exactly where a wrong size comes from.
Notice also that the maker's Small range stops at 2 in and its Medium range starts at 2.5 in. A paw between those two numbers falls in a gap the chart does not cover.
How to measure your dog's paw
The maker's ranges are paw widths, so the measurement that matters is the widest point of a front paw, taken with the dog standing. The step-by-step method, which is ours and not Dexas's, is on the size finder page, where you can also enter the number and see which published ranges it falls into. Use the larger of the two front-paw numbers: a paw pressed against the bottom of a cup spreads, so the standing number is the safer one.
MudBuster small vs medium vs large
The difference is bigger than a few inches of cup. The Large is 8.85 in tall against 4.3 in for the Small, more than double the height, and about 1.1 in wider. That affects three practical things.
- Storage. A tall Large cup needs a spot near the door that a Small does not.
- Water. A bigger cup takes more water to fill part-way, so the rinse routine is slower and heavier to carry.
- Fit. A paw that is too wide for the cup is awkward to insert. A paw that is too small for the cup may not touch the bristles well. The maker gives no fit tolerance, so we cannot say how far outside the range a paw can go.
The Large listing is the only one where the maker's guidance is open-ended: paws above 3.5 in, with no stated maximum. For a dog with very wide paws, check the product page and ask Dexas whether the Large will accommodate them.
If your dog is between sizes
This is the common case, and the maker does not offer a rule. A sensible approach, based on how cup cleaners work:
- Re-measure the widest paw, standing. Check whether you were rounding in one direction.
- Compare the paw to the outer width of both candidate cups, not just the stated range. A paw wider than the outer width of a cup will not go in at all.
- If the paw sits near the top of one range, lean to the larger size, because an overly tight cup is harder to use with a nervous dog.
- Check return terms where you buy before you order, and keep the packaging.
- Ask Dexas directly if you can. The maker's answer beats any guess on this page.
The first sign of a wrong size is usually a paw that touches the bottom, or one that will not turn. Our MudBuster review has a troubleshooting section for these cases.
What about breeds?
Dexas bases its chart on paw width, not breed or body weight, and it does not publish a dog-weight guide. Breed is a weak predictor of paw width, because individual dogs vary and mixed breeds vary more. Very roughly, a toy-size dog is a typical Small candidate, a mid-size dog a Medium candidate and a large-breed dog a Large candidate, but treat that as a starting guess to check against a ruler, not a recommendation. A puppy's paws will grow, so a cup that fits now may not in a few months.
Lidded versions
Dexas also lists a lidded MudBuster in Medium and Large. The lid is described as useful for carrying. The sizes follow the same names, but we do not have separate dimensions for the lidded cups, so check the listing before you assume they match the standard ones.
Where to buy and what to compare
You can check the current listing for the Small, the Medium or the Large on Amazon. Dexas sells through its own store as well. We show no prices. If you are unsure whether a cup is right at all, read the full MudBuster review or compare it against the Paw Plunger, which sizes by dog weight instead of paw width.
For paw safety questions, such as a limp, a cracked nail or irritated skin between the toes, ask your vet. A cleaner is for dirt, not for injuries.
