Dog Paw Wipes: 8 Wipes Compared by Label

Quick answer

The right dog paw wipes are the ones whose label you can read and accept. For sensitive dogs, choose unscented wipes with no essential oils, such as Earth Rated Unscented or Pogi's Fragrance Free. For big dogs, Wahl's 12.6 x 11.8 in sheets are the largest. Skip alcohol, and see a vet for constant licking.

Updated October 13, 2026. This page compares eight dog paw wipes by what is printed on the label: how many come in a pack, how big each sheet is, whether the wipe is scented, whether the maker says it is alcohol-free, and what the ingredient list shows. Specs last checked: October 13, 2026 We have not used any of these wipes. Every figure is the maker's published information, or a retailer's listing where the maker page was blocked, and each source is dated.

Quick answer: which dog paw wipes for which dog

These picks come from label data, not from quality rankings. A label tells you what is in the wipe. It cannot tell you how well the wipe cleans.

Unscented, sensitive dogEarth Rated Unscented, 100 ct, Pogi's Fragrance Free, 100 ctEarth Rated is unscented with no essential oil in its list, and the maker says it is free of alcohol and parabens. Pogi's is labeled fragrance free with no essential oil in its list, but the listing we found says nothing about alcohol.
Large dogs, big pawsWahl Refresh Massive, Unscented, 36 ct12.6 x 11.8 in sheets, the largest on this page. Earth Rated is 8 x 8 in. Wahl's page lists no ingredients.
Bulk countEarth Rated, Petkin or Pogi's, 100 ctAll three are 100 per pack. They differ on scent: Earth Rated Unscented and Pogi's are unscented, Petkin lists a deodorizing fragrance.

Dog paw wipes compared: the label table

The table comes from the same data file as every other product table on this site. Blank cells say "Not stated by maker" instead of a guess. The Petkin, Wahl, Pogi's and Nootie rows have gaps because their pages do not publish an ingredient list or an alcohol statement.

Three things stand out. Only the two Earth Rated wipes and the Wahl Coconut Lime wipe make an explicit alcohol-free statement. Only some of the eight list ingredients in full, so for the rest you need the pack in hand. And sheet sizes run from 2.25 in rounds to 12.6 x 11.8 in sheets, which changes how many paws one wipe covers.

The label checklist: what to look for on dog paw wipes

Dogs lick their paws, so a wipe is also something your dog may swallow a little of. This checklist uses the vet and poison-control sources linked at the end of the page.

  1. Alcohol. PetMD lists alcohol among the ingredients in human wipes that can be a problem for dogs. Look for a maker statement that the wipe is alcohol-free. Benzyl alcohol, which Nootie lists, is a different substance from rubbing alcohol, and we have no source that ranks one against the other.
  2. Fragrance. PetMD names fragrance in the same warning. Scented wipes in the table say so, and Petkin lists a "deodorizing fragrance" without naming it.
  3. Essential oils. The ASPCA advises against putting essential oils directly on pets because their concentration and quality vary. VCA lists tea tree among oils toxic to dogs. Earth Rated Lavender lists lavender oil and the Natural Dog Company wipe lists cajeput oil. Cajeput oil is distilled from a Melaleuca tree, the same genus as tea tree, though neither source lists cajeput by name. The sources do not say these oils at these levels are harmful, and we are not saying so either. The oil is on the list, and you can weigh that with your vet.
  4. Xylitol. The Pet Poison Helpline says xylitol is toxic to dogs and appears in items such as lotions, so check anything a dog may lick. None of the eight wipes lists it.
  5. A full ingredient list. If the maker does not publish one, you cannot run the checks above. That is a fair reason to pick a different wipe.
  6. Maker claims. "Hypoallergenic", "veterinarian approved" and "safe for pets that lick" are the makers' own words. We found no independent veterinary source behind any of them.

Picks by need

Unscented and sensitive dogs

Two wipes pair "unscented" with a published ingredient list and no essential oil in it. Earth Rated Unscented has the fuller paper trail: the maker says it is free of alcohol and parabens and calls it hypoallergenic. The Earth Rated page does not say which ingredient list belongs to which scent, so we matched them by contents, and the maker says the list can change. Check the pack. Pogi's Fragrance Free lists seven ingredients, including aloe vera extract and vitamin E. Its maker site was blocked, so that list comes from a retailer and should be confirmed.

Wahl's unscented wipe says it suits sensitive pets, but its page lists no ingredients, so it cannot be checked against the list above.

Large dogs and big paws

Size is something a label does state clearly. Wahl's Refresh Massive wipes are 12.6 x 11.8 in against 8 x 8 in for Earth Rated, and the pack is 36 wipes (3 x 12). On a big dog, that is more cloth per wipe. Wahl describes the Unscented wipe for coat, paws and body, not paws alone, and the page lists no ingredients. The Coconut Lime version, sold for paws, face, ears and body, is scented and carries a free-from statement covering alcohol, parabens and PEG-80.

Bulk count

Three wipes come as 100 per pack: Earth Rated, Petkin and Pogi's. If your dog is out daily, count matters. Four paws a walk is 100 walks only if each wipe handles all four, which smaller sheets may not. Petkin's page gives the count in the product name but no sheet size and no alcohol statement, so you would be buying without two facts this page asks for.

Natural Dog Company's jar of 50 rounds, about 2.25 in across, is the one sized for a paw. It lists cajeput oil. The maker page calls jojoba oil hypoallergenic, not the wipe, so we record no hypoallergenic claim for it. Small rounds fit in a glovebox, but expect one round per paw at best.

Dog paw wipes for allergies and for yeast

A wipe cleans. It does not treat. No maker on this page gave us a source that a cleaning wipe treats an allergy or a yeast infection, so we make no such claim.

The vet sources say something narrower. VCA Canada names pollens, molds and dust mites as common triggers of atopic dermatitis, says frequent bathing may reduce the allergen a dog takes in, and links chronic licking to red, inflamed skin. AKC says dirt and moisture trapped between the toes create an ideal breeding ground for yeast. So wiping off pollen and drying between the toes is reasonable hygiene. It is not a diagnosis.

When to see a vet

See a vet for constant licking or chewing, redness, swelling, discharge, brown staining that keeps coming back, or an odor between the toes. The medicated Nootie wipe is aimed at those problems: the maker calls it antifungal and antibacterial and says to use it once daily or as directed by a vet for itching and licking of paws and tail. We cannot judge that claim. Your vet can tell you whether it fits your dog.

Wipes versus washing

A wipe is quick and leaves no puddle at the door, but it pushes dirt around as much as it removes it. For thick mud, sand or road salt, water does the work. Our after-walk routine shows when to rinse, when a damp cloth is enough and how to dry between the toes. If mud is a daily event, a cup or mat may suit you better, and the dog paw cleaner comparison lines those up by paw width. Our rule of thumb: wipes for light dirt and trips, water for anything you can see clumped between the pads.

Who should skip wipes

  • Dogs with open cuts, cracked pads or sore skin. Wipes can sting, and the problem needs a vet.
  • Owners who cannot check the ingredient list. Use water instead.
  • Dogs that only get lightly dusty. A damp cloth costs nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Are paw wipes safe for dogs?

Wipes made for pets are the documented option, but safe depends on the label. PetMD warns that wipes made for people can contain alcohol, petrochemicals and fragrance (PetMD). Dogs lick their paws, so whatever stays on the skin can be swallowed. Read the ingredient list, skip alcohol, and check it for essential oils.

Should I wipe my dog's paws after every walk?

It depends on where you walked. Hill's Pet says frequency depends on activity and season. In winter the ASPCA advises washing and drying your pet's feet after each walk to remove ice, salt and chemicals. Our after-walk routine covers the steps.

What is the best thing to wipe dogs' paws with?

For most walks, a cloth dampened with lukewarm water is enough, as in the routine from Hill's Pet. When you want something quick, a wipe labeled for pets works, and PetMD and AKC both mention wipes for paws. Choose one with a plain, readable ingredient list and no alcohol.

Is it okay to wipe my dog's paws with baby wipes?

The sources differ a little. A vet quoted by AKC recommends baby wipes free of alcohol and fragrance for wiping paws after walks. PetMD warns that wipes made for people can contain alcohol, petrochemicals and fragrance (PetMD). If you use one, check the label for both and skip any that list them.

Are dog paw wipes antibacterial?

Most wipes here are cleaning wipes and make no antibacterial claim on the pages we read. The exception is Nootie Medicated Pet Wipes, which the maker calls antifungal and antibacterial and which list chlorhexidine gluconate and miconazole nitrate as active ingredients. That is a medicated product, so ask your vet before using it.

Can I use paw wipes on other parts of my dog?

Some makers say yes. Earth Rated's page describes its wipes for paws, body and bum, and Wahl's pages describe its wipes for the coat, paws and body, or for paws, face, ears and body. Petkin and Natural Dog Company present theirs for paws. Check the maker's wording for the area you mean.
